A Solitary Wayward Leaf

A Solitary Wayward Leaf

A Poem by Chris Shaw

A leaf in happy morning mood
kept active by a wilful gust
that saw it cartwheel quick, quick, slow.,
which knocked the winter rust off me.
My toes felt lifted, so inspired
I gathered pace and took a chance.
I chased it down a country lane
to join it in its crazy dance.

i love this...the willingness to run with abandon in life...to take risks. the wind being a whim...
and i found it interesting that in reading the first few lines i not only envisioned, but hoped for the ending...that the speaker would be dancing with the leaf...
what great partners they make.

This is a sweet write. I felt like I was being awakened & renewed after a long, stagnant phase. Very nice images, & a wonderful scene painted in simple verse.

There's such movement in this poem, Chris! To watch is one thing.. and fun.. but to take part proves to Self and onlookers that experiencing an impromptu event is both and more, precious and special. Could visualise the theatre of this poem. What's more, its ending made me smile! Thank you.

The only thing that could make this better is the amendment my mind made, of a pause, then ending in a "whee whee whee, all the way home."
For some reason i pictured you flying along in heelies, with a big fat smile on your face.
Ps... I am so jealous that heelies weren't around when i was a nipper. Maybe in my dotage i will care less about the looks i get, well at least until i knock down a group of pensioners like I'm ten pin bowling 😀
To be so free..... Sigh.

That's beautiful, Chris.
I can see a Cinderella dancing on a pair of glass shoes accompanied by fairy flowers in the garden of nature.
