A Gong For A Wrong

A Gong For A Wrong

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

A little rant from a tree lover.

"
Congratulations to our local council,
who have exceeded themselves by far.
I award a shiny gold star for your
level of sheer incompetence.

You have to be pretty dense I think
to destroy eight hundred saplings
without a thought, planted by
volunteers of a woodland trust.

Try as I must, I can't contemplate
how anyone could chop down
a flucking forest, each little tree
of five years standing.

In one almighty swoop, managing
to wipe out the equivalent of four
thousand years of tree growth
while doing routine clearance.

That has to be one of the best acts
of vandalism I have come across,
knocks spots of grafitti on the odd
wall or two which can be erased.

A case of they couldn't see the trees
for the nettles they were attempting to weed, so much for routine parks
maintenance.

Well, as you know Chris, as someone who has more than a passing acquaintance with the forrestry commission, i can very much flucking believe their levels of incompetence and beauroc... Bewroc... arse over tit levels of rules for rules sake... Or perhaps its just having to justify their own existence by thinking out loud, way too loudly, whilst others are present, whose own incompetence they dont want known, so they just agree with the flucking idiot, making more flucking idiots and less sense.
Add the woodland trust into the mix and now you have a flock of flucks.
I better shut up now, my boss may be reading this 😀

Oh! You must be so cross. I would be absolutely mad, hammering on the door. Can you not insist that they replace the butchered trees? I wonder what morons did the job. They probably didn’t recognise what they were chopping down...couldn’t see the wood for the trees!!

Christine, a woman of my tree-hugging sentiments too !!!
I totally agree with your rant, many of my poems are in that realm.
i don't believe it was an accident, they thought they could get away with it, but got found out. maybe they should tie a label to every tree at eye level height.
keep on ranting christine!!!

Gee
Hmmm, perhaps a new DIY store planned and no place to build it, there is usually some ulterior motive when the fluckers fluck it up.
Good morning Chris, hope you are well.

The outrage underlying these lines almost reaches out and grabs you by the lapels. Of course, what other reaction could be expected from such an action by elected officials. Eight hundred saplings planted by environmentalists! It defies belief. On the other hand, these are politicians, after all.

Flucking? Has an Anglo-Saxon sound to it.

sorry to hear of such vandalism . . . a senseless destruction is just pure ignorance, an unseeing eye, an indifference to beauty. How can anyone mistake saplings for weeds!!!???

Great rant, Chris, especially in today's climate, lol, which is getting warmer by the minute, I would give the fuckers a golden raspberry, but they would probably cut that down too,

Every time mistakes are made out of ignorance or political reasons, someone else pays. It happens in the States too. Hate to hear that and you voice of truth echoes loud and clear. If people don't rant and rave, nothing will be done. The power of people vs the elites...

Hello Alexandra. Many thanks for your encouraging review. Much appreciated.

Chris
Ah, what an awful turn of events. I’m actually proud of the town I live in because they have a no mow policy in waysides and public lands in an effort to encourage biodiversity and environmental health. It’s a highly populated area, so all the wild spaces feel a bit sacred.

I hate to read this, Chris. I wish people would be held to account when they do things like this. Our so-called public servants are often let off the hook which sends a very strange message. Especially when others are punished severely at times for seemingly trivial things.

I hope the trees will be replaced. Though they will be smaller, at least it would be a start toward a healthier environment.

Great way to shine a light on this subject. Always sad to read about these kinds of things.
