The depth of emotion in this write is stunning! I have to say that when I visit the graves of loved ones, I often stop at a random stone....one that looks unvisited.....and wonder what sort of life that person had. Who did they leave behind and why is no one ever here to remember? You are such a compassionate soul, Chris. A beauty of a write. Lydi**

Ponder on the dead as we pass through. Trying to fathom what their lives may have been like and remembering that in time we all pass. In the overall picture of things we are like dust motes in an ocean sky. All good wishes.

I like to think that each flower grown in todays world of death is a flower earmarked for the grave of someone lost. In fact, a flower is our only instance where the soul tries to make that human connection. Beautiful poetry and thanks for sharing it with us....dana

The enormity of each word made me swallow hard, and I found your title to be just as beautiful. Good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way!

You must feel much as I do, and believe that those who are gone should not also be forgotten. This fine poem is a powerful and emotional statement to that fact. Now, if more in this world could have such empathy as you, it would be a better place.

My Mother is resting in Oddfellows Cemetery in Delaware.. where lies also her Mom and Dad, sisters and brothers and other family members. Their Stones are under shade trees and your poem touches on the other much older graves etched with names and words that linger. My Mothers Stone is a large Rose Quartz Heart etched in black the words..
"Close to my heart I hold each precious thing the sweet day yields... until God gives us Spring".
Perhaps other passerby's will linger and place a single rose. with loving thoughts dear Chris for an endearing poem. Pat

Lovely to hear where your family rest Pat. So pleased you enjoyed my poem.
Suppressed grief, perhaps, at humanity's starkly desperate condition; an emotional recognition
of the blindness of our journey--the seeming finality of death.
Too many individuals quickly forgotten; indeed, if they were ever very much remembered.
Took a great soul to discern these things, and more.
Took a gifted artist to portray them, so movingly.

I try and stay away from graves as I'm sure they will be my resting place when I'm dead and gone. Your poem strikes at the heart of sadness!

I have to admit that I tend to stay away from graveyards too because I find them quite overwhelming when I visit. On this occasion I was with my granddaughter who was paying respects to her other grandma. Always appreciate your visits.
Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
