When love loves me

When love loves me

A Poem by Chris Shaw

I do not often speak of love
of candle light and snow white doves.
I do not speak of harps and hearts
or Cupid with his golden bow.
But what I do know is that he
my love who nightly shares my bed
and calls my name out in his sleep,
without a trace of shadowed doubt
his love is true and he loves me.

This is a nice little cut of succinctity, Chris, aptly articulated and carrying a strong sentiment.

I might be interjecting a little with my own image here, but some say that love is like a mirror - held up to our partners so that we might better see ourselves (or, at the very least, the parts of ourselves reflected by them that we enjoy looking at). In other ways, the mirror captures those parts of ourselves that'd seem to've been missing - the other halves, and cornered jigsaws that they've, by some small miracle, somehow found the means to fit.

I prefer the latter, in that analogy, and it's funny that we often come to such realizations after spending the night beside somebody.

Very nice piece of writing, again, and thank you kindly for sharing.

That love is your personal heaven, Chris. from where we don't share details with the others; out side world has no room in that deeply personal life, it is extremely intimate and sacred.

You are welcome dear Chris.
A good love is something I just feel... like the warmth from the first sip of coffee it spreads a trickle of warm sensation outwards thru my chest encompassing all it touches outwards like your lines just did to my heart in such a simple expression resonating in mine... P.S. if i saw a cupid with his golden bow i would get out my bug spray and fly swatter what horrid sight that would be, dear god!:)

Good to know that when you give of your love it is returned ~ best twofold! This makes a perfect partnership ...the giving and the taking. Sentimental piece. Thank you for sharing.

What a safe place to be Chris. People who find love given and returned for many loyal years of forgiveness and understanding and endurance and joy are indeed fortunate and you capture the sentiment in this lovely tight little piece.
