I do not often speak of love
of candle light and snow white doves.
I do not speak of harps and hearts
or Cupid with his golden bow.
But what I do know is that he
my love who nightly shares my bed
and calls my name out in his sleep,
without a trace of shadowed doubt
his love is true and he loves me.
This is a nice little cut of succinctity, Chris, aptly articulated and carrying a strong sentiment.
I might be interjecting a little with my own image here, but some say that love is like a mirror - held up to our partners so that we might better see ourselves (or, at the very least, the parts of ourselves reflected by them that we enjoy looking at). In other ways, the mirror captures those parts of ourselves that'd seem to've been missing - the other halves, and cornered jigsaws that they've, by some small miracle, somehow found the means to fit.
I prefer the latter, in that analogy, and it's funny that we often come to such realizations after spending the night beside somebody.
Very nice piece of writing, again, and thank you kindly for sharing.

This is a love poem after my own heart. I am not into romance & fluffy love poems. I love how this is reality-based & solid as a rock. I have not known this kind of love myself, but when a couple is in it, you can tell so easily. It's never a big show of external fluff. I love that you have this kind of love & I love your title (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I do not speak often of anything, really...
But if I did speak it, or heard speak of it from a trusted one...
I would not think a thing like candles or a hallmark showing of affection would be suffice for my belief to be genuine...
These notions/motions can be made on a whim...
Loyalty that stretches past the bounds of conscious/unconscious thought, however...
That is priceless and unrepeatable
No replication matches it...

I can sense your insistence of understated eloquence
as a gentle breeze in a wide ocean touching your emotion, your rhyme breathed falling upon your love
No need to shout, Chris, when love loves you, you will know it in braille

This is lovely. As someone who frequently writes about love, your piece made me smile. It's definitely a nice feeling knowing that your significant other loves you back, and it certainly is beyond words to describe.
Nice one, Christine. :)

Thank you Dr Y for your lovely review. Your visit appreciated.
How fortunate, blessed - whatever the word... you are, dear Chris. Was reminded recently that life gives us all what we deserve. Mixed blessings for many, perhaps? But, how utterly wonderful that you can gently and contentedly pen your thoughts knowing their truth and beauty sleep and wake with and within you.

Many thanks Em for your visit and your thoughts. All good wishes.
Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
