Did You Ever?

Did You Ever?

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Scientific facts here folks.

"
Did you ever contemplate
that female dragonflies
can seemingly lie?
Determined to be mistress
of their own fate,
studies have discovered
that ladies of the species
will feign death
rather than succumb to
the advances of rampant mates.
Forgive me for smiling
because it tickles me to find
such punishing plans put in place,
talk about anything
for a bit of peace.
"A not tonight darling
I've got a headache
I can't face it", is pretty tame
when you compare it
to the games those winged divas play.
Got to hand it to them
they ain't flitting about with any nonsense
unless they are in the mood
and feel broody.
A simple "Go away" out of the question.
They'd rather fake their own demise,
drastic measures to avoid
one of life's little pleasures.

Oh wow...I did not know this. It seems the perfect affect. Its why I enjoy the company or women. Not in that way, but because of the way that history and patriarchal hierarchy have played out. I can't imaging the s**t and minutia that women have to deal with. That being said, I applaud this fact finding mission and have to say, I would play dead as well.

It's a good thing that they don't have police forces. Those gals would have the serious charge to contend with, LOL. --- This was a fun read, well written and laid out, different and fun. Thanks.

This story is such fun.. Had no idea that this happened among dragonflies.. Wonder if other creatures react the same...
Love it...and of course plan to tell everyone I know,

Hehehe! You are welcome. All wonderful things.
Could be worse. She could be a Black Widow. Man-eaters are the worst. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
Well, you know, I couldn't resist the Jaws reference! Nicely done.

Wow, I've heard of insects and even fish in the sea having the ability to change colors but faking your own death to avoid the opposite sex...that's a new one. ha

Nice info Chris.

My grandmother called dragonflies God's darning needles and if we told a lie one would come to sew our lips shut. I'm still here, lips open...so either the story wasn't true...or I've never told a lie.
What are the odds? ;>{0}

Smiling here...you have taught me something today, Chris. The female dragonfly is very clever...cunning...coquettish. Who would have dreamed this? Mother Nature is a cagey one. Loved this. Lydi**
