I loved this poem for its conversational tone and effortless rhyming. We all relate to this kind of wishful thinking and missing those good old carefree times. What stops us from getting a pair of wings and flying off for a time to relive those days? Usually our responsibilities and our limited resources of energy and time. Yet sometimes, we owe it to ourselves to find that time. I do appreciate the deeper message I read in your words here, dear Chris.

This one gave me chills. You could feel the love of friendship there. I have had this feeling many times but to have it over a friend, I'm sure, a true staple in your daily life, is a new view. You portrayed it very well.

Many thanks for your visit and thoughts on this write BBP. All good wishes.
I liked the slightly off kilter rhythm, we all long for our youth at certain times, like when you meet an old school friend and have run out of chat after 10 minutes, like nature Life is ever changing and evolving, make the most of the here and now, :)
It's the simple pleasures of delighting in someone's company that can truly turn our world around, giving us a much needed perspective. Time is fleeting, and every day is another we've lost. How wonderfully you've captured that here, Chris!

Thank you Kelly. Happy you enjoyed this little poem about one of my friends.
Right time and place- all shall time tell all shall be well- place and time for all even though distant shores go call- I want to get away even for just one day- but sooner than later the day arrives and we wonder what now? Let’s appreciate the here and now for well never be able to return to it - wonderful wishful thoughts🌹

Many thanks Kelly for your lovely review. All good wishes to you.
this is so beautifully written and really captures the heart and imagination
it has a fried green tomatoes feel mixed with a touch of Thelma and Louise adventure
the longing to reconnect with a dear friend, it is felt so strongly

The structure of this poem has to have been one of my favorites in a long time. It read so easily I could have gone over it multiple times for pleasure. Very well done, very great flow, and thank you for it. Put a smile on my face for sure.

flying dreams are the best of all ... i am eternally grateful for them when they visit me ;) a universal need to escape responsibilities ..if only for just a moment .. i am a single parent having raised 4 that way .. every once in a while ... usually a Sunday .. i would go to our nearby Mall ... buy a stiff cup of coffee and walk around to several favorite shops to just look .. i got to know the shop owners a bit and they became my "regulars" ... and how we do miss those best friends .. in reading i went back and forth as to whether this is a woman or a man who is the friend ... a fantasy about the "get-away" heats up a bit if it is a past lover ..must confess those kinds of thoughts do get attached to some memories eh!?
;)

Dee Dee was and is still a much loved girl friend. I wrote this a while back when she had left our shores for Mumbai where she stayed for quite sometime. Pleased to say she has returned and we still have our days out together. Smiled at the ending of your review. Now that would be something else entirely, and yes it would certainly turn the heat up :)) Hope all is good with you and a delight it was to get a visit from you this morning.

The things we wish we would do . . . but the excuses we make even at the expense of friendship. What makes us hesitate to do what we want to do?

In this instance she moved to Mumbai and I had three young children at home, so no chance of me spreading my wings. Long time ago but happily she has moved back and I still see her. Thanks for the visit.
Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
