Without Conditions

Without Conditions

A Poem by Chris Shaw

I love you most for your imperfections
and even more for those major flaws.

I can hold them like a spring bouquet
that you gave to me in early May,
wilted and torn, worn from the chill of winds.

Yet I'd gladly take those blooms
regardless that their stems are bent,
regardless that they're broken
and more so as they've lost their scent
for they are but a token.

They remind me of me,
quite often in a boat at sea,
struggling to stay afloat.

Quite often perceiving simplicity
as complex,
it's the wiring of me,
the way my brain functions.
I have my flaws too,
but my doors remain open,
accessible and true.

You always amaze me with your ability to express with a powerful impact yet with simplicity of words, I find here my poem "the lyrics" gentle at times, tough at times, easy at times, complicated, cold at times, warm in another... my smile didn't leave my face from the line one until the last, the essence of love that flowed through was pure and genuine. Thank You my dearest Chris for keep sharing your "perfection" poetry with us.

There is beauty in a bouquet of broken roses, Chris, beware the pricks, I liked the analogy, good poem girl,
True love involves the good the bad and the ugly, I have a vase of dead flowers with dead pheasant feathers on my mantle and it is a work of art.

After reading you for quite some time, I can say that this is completely believable about you & your way of perceiving people & everything in life. You portray everything you write about with equal reverence for the good, the bad, & the ugly . . . one thing that really attracts me to your point of view. Even the evil characters have to be lovable in the best writing. There's never any abrasive edge to your way of seeing everything in life & all people, in your writing. For some, I would say your poem expresses a hopeful goal, but for you, it's a goal attained (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That's true love. So beautiful. Whether it be romantic or not it's clear that there's love, respect and acceptance. So rare to have unconditional love.

Beauty is always more beautiful in a broken soul. I really enjoyed this one. It is an ode of true love, accepting of all.

Unconditional regard, a prerequisite in Rogerian psychology and humanist teaching. Too often we judge by harsher standards of conduct and forget human frailty and our own fears and failings. Nicely put as the protagonist accepts the flaws of others and sees their own in equal measure.

We are all flawed John, not one of us is perfect. Thank you for this welcome review.

Wonderful - that’s to empathy and compassion - likewise I feel the broken as being balanced in a weird way but if it wasn’t for the wrongs there would be no right- wonderful way of thinking 🌹
