Your poem is so touching Chris. It is a beautiful elegy, a dirge that sings mournfully. A Loddon lilly must eloquently symbolize life and loss. “I have laid him to rest..where no one else shall know”- a forbidden love or a love too precious to share perhaps? The graceful symmetry, lyrical words, rhyme and repetition enhance the deep emotion evoked in the lines. “I have laid him to rest”-yes, but never to be forgotten. Amazing write.

Heartrending chant.
You "have laid him to rest" but it does not appear that--when it comes to this passing--
you will soon find any rest, for yourself.
A grievous, grievous loss.

A touching tribute to a true love, maybe a secret one or one that ask you to bury him in a remote place, or maybe one you had to bury in your deep in your mind. Thank you for sharing, Chris.

Such deep emotion in this one, Chris. A mournful tribute to one you loved. Perhaps to one no one can know you loved. The words leave a lot to the imagination. I really liked this one. Lydi**

Thank you Lydi** for your lovely review. Most appreciated.
I just had to look at pictures of the Loddon Lily as I read this touching poem. The flower is white, a color so reminiscent of endings and sorrow but also of peace, purity of love and serenity. The repetition of the concluding lines drives home the pain of finality in your gentle and beautiful words.

It blooms in a few special places, one of them on a small uninhabited island that I visit when boating. The flower is everything you say and that is why it is so fitting for this poem. Thank you DIVYA for your lovely thoughts.
i learn so many things from your poetry Chris ... had to look up lodden lilly ;) .. repetition works in this one the way it should .. powerful .. emphatic ... strong voice ... this is a poem to take with me every day .. we pick up and cleave to "stuff" continually .. tho it drags us down .. that purposeful "letting go" "putting away" ... laying to rest .. is the quiet wisdom of a life well lived says i! ... Amen! ;)

It is incredibly hard to let go of something or someone that you know is having an adverse effect on you and your well being, even though there is love there. That my poetry teaches you stuff is beyond my dreams. I thank you so much.
Albert, my paternal grandfather introduced me to Tennyson when I was nine. I have loved poetry ever since but did not attempt writing a single piece until I was 40. It's never too late to try somethin.. more..
