Early Bird

Early Bird

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(one from the archives, out for an airing)

"
It's the newness of the morning,
that breaking part of dawn.
A sun that rises in the east,
the dew upon the lawn.
It's the whisper of the ivy
as it trembles on the breeze
or the early greeting from my cat
who nuzzles up to please.

It's the singing of my kettle,
the welcome taste of tea,
sweet comfort of my bathroom robe
that snuggles close to me.
It's contentment that I'm on my own
and that I've found the key,
while others heavy in their sleep
miss out on poetry.

In that most serene part of the day, we find special moments, don't we? I brew coffee and have no cat (wish I did) but the birds outside make a fabulous choir. Like you, I embrace those early hours while the rest of the house snores.

Thank you Tabby. Way to go :)

The imagery alone took me back to when I was just a boy waking on my grandmas property on an early summers mirning. Everything quiet and still and as you sit and take in the new start if the new day you are able to observe the little things that bring about life. I’ve always been an early riser as there’s always been that feeling of missing out on something if I slept in too much. Loved the last line! Perfect 👌

There is a lovely bit of serenity here. Tea & toast sounds good.

I got up early this morning...but all I got was a worm...had to fight the robins for it at that. ;>}

This is the perfect description of what mornings mean to me, all except for you tea drinkers over there (gotta have coffee here! *wink! wink!*) Also, the cat could be a dog to suit me a little better. But all kidding aside, I love the way you capture all the reasons why I'm provoked to write in the mornings. I love your rhyme & rhythm, very snappy & bouncy to enhance the mood of your message (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
