Daydreams Of A Harmless Kind

Daydreams Of A Harmless Kind

A Poem by Chris Shaw

A lily pad has broken free
from all her friends and family
and left behind a safe retreat
of sheltered waters, clear and deep.

I see the dangers for this craft,
a raft which carries hopes and dreams.
I watch the struggle as she swirls
through currents on her way downstream.

I cast a magic spell and sigh
then wait and watch her navigate.
A change of pace, she gathers speed,
into the distance and her fate.

Later in the day I find
my plate-shaped craft still on my mind.
A moment's pause before I think,
'Ah yes, there'll be some challenges,
but no she won't succumb and sink'.

well, Chris...what a delightful allegory...
my buddy and i would sail wooden ships down the creek...and watch them as they encountered obstacles but got through and kept sailing.
some did not....like humans...we sail a creek of life....trying to survive and keep floating on.
Some get caught up in problems and stall, maybe forever...but we try to keep movin' on.
another thoughtful write,
j.

What a captivating poem! When chasing hopes and dreams, sinking is always possible, but it's a risk we have to take in order to honour our purpose in life.
I like that your poem is hopeful and declares that she won't sink despite the difficulties. I do wish life was more like that. Lovely work.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. Truly appreciated. All good wishes.

Chris
Pond lilies are so lovely , they look so fragile sitting on the water yet they do clump together and move about. A lovely daydream to wonder where it's journey took it ..... I would have wondered too

This one seems to be a symbol of life possibly taken from a real scene of nature. We all must at some time in our lives break free from the security of our origins and set sail on the stream of life. We go, as the poem states, into the distance and our fate, whatever that might be. Very creative and nicely rhymed.
