When Night Calls Time On DayA Poem by Chris Shaw
What happens to the sinking sun
when night calls time on day? Does he wave to say goodnight before he slips away? Does he shout his shifts all done, then weary from the heat, discards his sweaty yellow shirt and the sandals on his feet? Does he take a cooling bath after he shaves his head? Then gives his Mum a night, night kiss as he gets into bed? And does he rest his squeak clean cheeks on pillows edged with lace, clicks the switch of a bedside lamp with a smile upon his face? Then finally a lullaby could soothe him into sleep, but turn him first upon his side his snores will make you weep.
