When Leadership Is Called For

When Leadership Is Called For

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(my sense of humour, sorry)

"
On tv, an intense debate takes place
concerning the state of the nation
as Brexit bamboozles and blinds
with its complexity.
Well, for some, not for me.

Yet an equal amount of gloom
pervades within the confines
of our living room,
between three others, parked on
our comfy settee
arguing about another critical matter
to contemplate.

This time it's the fate
of the last square of chocolate.
This calls for leadership says I,
so in the blink of an eye
I step up to the plate
and solve the problem.

Yummy it was too
and gobsmacked were they.
Dismayed expressions, not a sound
until I put them out of their misery
and found in my handbag a reserve
supply of the stuff they all crave.
Saved the day, all smiles.

And I am left in awe of the
power, I wield.

Chris, you have discovered that there is no problem too big that cannot be solved with chocolate. Unfortunately our various and sundry leaders are too busy trying to make themselves look good...to get re-elected after all...to pay attention to the huddled masses that do the voting. If my math is correct...and I have no reason to doubt it, then you assumed leadership with only 25% of the vote. Well done...now, take over from Theresa May.

This makes me crave a piece - oh, an entire chunk, a bar, a kilo - of chocolate. It's funny how we think of this and that even though important things come onto our TVs and radios. Hmm, give me the control: we can go over to the other side. Yes, it rather makes me think. Nice piece. Of poetry as well as chocolate.

The power of chocolate! That reminds me, I have a cream cheese danish that needs attending to. Now, what did I do with my coffee thermos? This was fun to read, Chris. Dispense and bestow the chocolate with graceful magnanimity ;) I may be forced to share my danish.

After chocolate, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Might scare off some of those bad pollies. Yes it is a soap opera these days while we eat chocolate pondering our lives in the hands of idiots.

I simply cannot conceive why I have missed this slab of Chris's humour until just now .. I must have had something else on my mind .. maybe it was the vasectomy :)

While politicians are we plugging their own agendas, in a comfortable home a debate takes place about how the last square of chocolate should be shared… you Chris solved quite cleverly… just eat it and it’s gone, except that happened to have a bit more for the hungry and all was fine… just shows good leadership Chris….the power of a woman!
Fine work Chris …
Warmly
B.
