Sanctuary

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(thinking of summer warmth)

"
If I could conjure magic up
and call for company,
who would I choose from those I love
to spend an hour with me?

Who would I choose to sit beside
upon this sturdy seat,
while watching shadows from the trees
draw closer to my feet?

Who would I choose to linger with
amid these scented flowers,
oblivious of passing time
or random summer showers?

Oblivious to birds in song
or butterflies in flight
or daisies yawning in the grass
as dusk paves way for night.

How hard a task it is to choose,
pack all concerns away,
my thoughts have harboured many loves
as I sat here today.

Hmm, now you've got me thinking. Well, if you were to invite someone, it would have to be someone who can speak as well as listen, or you wouldn't see nature at play in that fine setting, so that rules me out. I wouldnt shut up until you told me your top 32 ice cream flavours, then I would move on to top 12 coffees, so thats me out. Donald Trump perhaps...in the hope you have a basement that can be filled with quick dry cement, after cutting his ridiculous hair off first. Na, too much trouble. Maybe you could just group chat writerscafe friends on skype, and if anyone bores you, you could vote off the weakest link until you have one ideal guest left.
There, sorted! :)

A wonderful poem Chris. But sometimes actions speak louder than words. And just quality time spent with loved ones means more than any fancy trips or visits to this and that place. Just being in their company, enjoying each other personalities and having a chat and a laugh. Is sometimes just the best quality time you can simply enjoy having. Outwith of course doing things other things I negatively said to start with of course.

I would take grandchildren to Lake Huron on a Summer day. Watch them enjoy the gift of the forest and lake. My wish. A wonderful poem share dear Chris.

certainly a difficult, but perhaps rewarding decision to make.

Thank you Dave. Not an easy decision. Small bench, too many to fit on.

Sadly uplifting as you sit alone but have so much love you have experienced in life. Another nicely penned piece Chris.

Indeed we do. It is both a place we guard jealously and pray for escape from!
lovely to reminisce on the people that have touched our lives and i am sure your heart is big enough to make room for all of them to share your seat...

Yes Jacob. It would be a very difficult decision, but fun to contemplate. Thank you.

Half way through reading, I began thinking who I might invite to come sit with me. Like you, there are so many. You paint a lovely scene there on the bench, observing the world and wanting to share the moment.
