Take It

Take It

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Make of it what you will, one from the archives

"
Take it,
take it, take it all,
my books, my china and my home.
Take every bloody thing I own
and don't forget the treasures too
left in the bedroom, top drawer chest.
And after that why don't you take
the polish from the kitchen floor,
and then the crumbs upon the plate.
It's not enough?
Then here's some more.
Take it, take it, take the rest.
Take my garden flowers fair,
take all my unkempt wavy hair,
each single lash about my eyes,
both eyebrows and my energy.

My haemoglobin, throw that in
and drain the colour from my skin.
Take everything and leave me bare,
there's nothing left for you to bin.
But leave me, leave me, leave me please
I'm pleading now and on my knees,
please spare me my own dignity.

Sometimes we need peace at any cost. This is what your words say to me. This poem has the right amount of distress, drama and despair to stop me in my tracks and I tip-toed in to look in on you. Wishing you all the best things, always! ❤️

Dear Chris. I feel the deepness of the words.
"My haemoglobin, throw that in
and drain the colour from my skin.
Take everything and leave me bare,
there's nothing left for you to bin."
The above lines. Real life and true place. Dignity. Last thing we hold dear. Thank you Chris for sharing the amazing poetry.'

All good with me dear one.
So much can be read into this one but ultimately whatever we are robbed of, often our dignity hangs on a thread with it and we wish, and pray as all those material things are taken away we keep our dignity until the end.

I can feel the angst loud and clear. In each line and every word
In this lashing out poem..packed with deep emotions spilling forth

As Jacob said, wow! Hard hitting reveal and plea when things have gone wrong and breaking up means losing everything. Things don't matter but security and dignity do. You capture the feeling of helplessness and resignation in this Chris.

Many thank yous John. Your comments appreciated.

wow...this sums up so many relationships of abuse both mental and physical...and how the self-esteem just keeps cracking and cracking until the plate of self-worth is totally shattered...

this made me very angry---which it should...you drew out that emotion with your words, Chris.

I could almost hear the plate bouncing off his head Chris. (good aim)
There are givers and there are takers, and each have their oen extremistd to boot. Some people woulf gladly take your watch after cutting off your arms, but it still wouldnt be enough, they'd probanly want your rings too. And your backscratcher.
It may just be me but I find those who take take take usually have some sort of undeserved notion of entitlement and that everyone they meet, as well as the rest of the world owes them a favour. If only they would learn that their own arrogance will one day lead to their downfall.... Hopefully down into a pit with sharp spikes at the bottom (i watched a lot of tarzan as a kid)
