Some Things Remain Unspoken

Some Things Remain Unspoken

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(my bible a birthday gift from parents when I was nine)

"
At the back of my battered bible,
dusty and unused
I hide my precious mementos.
A pressed red rose,
paper thin orchid petals
of a deep blue hue
and a lucky four leaf clover.
Gifts from my grandchildren.

Last year I added a Christmas card,
greetings from my friend Jen.
Who had painstakingly penned
calligraphy lettering in green
with a jolly sprig of holly
between the card's buff covers.

My fingers trace lines where her
hand worked diligently

When people give us such mementos as these, they give us a part of ourselves. How precious that part and a treasure for us to cherish always. Tucked away in the Bible, reminding us all our lives that we are, we were loved. Your words made sad and grateful at the same time. Appreciated reading very much Chris!

This made me think about my father's Bible. It was ragged and stuffed full of little things like tracings of children's feet, ancestors birthdays, and such. That's how it looked when I was a child. Now there's only a few of the pages left. Time wasn't kind to it, I guess, even though it held such treasures. Yours sounds like the same kind of depository for things precious. I'm sure you'll take good care of it.

There are only a few, that when visited a good read is guaranteed, you being one of them Christine. Please tell me these take you a while to put together :))
The final verse hits hard to the heart.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you're good, good enough to fill a book that would sell.
Hope all is well with you Christine

Absolute pleasure- keep the magic going!
Some words are meant to be remembered and cherished. We keep them amongst the pages we read, that transport us into remembering why they hold such cherished memories.
Beautifully penned. Deserving to be held within those pages itself.
