For Mija who wanted to write a poem before she died

For Mija who wanted to write a poem before she died

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

( Written after watching the Korean film Poetry)

"
Soft summer drizzle on your skin,
you sit reflecting life and years.
No tears, though rainfall dews your cheeks,
absorbed in sadness, shame and fears.
These quiet moments, you alone.
A harvest ripened from the grain.
A crop of sorrow gathered there,
stored in your barn of inner pain.
Grey river coldly hurries by,
an empty page, the words won't play
and only drops of heavy rain
will leave their wretched mark this day.
Yet deep within your poet's soul,
your undeserving torment builds.
The feelings that you'll soon express,
about to blast across the fields.
And when they do, that's when we'll see
you've found your voice in poetry.

Mija had such sadness, shame and fear in her and that makes for powerful poetry.
You sketch her with sublime strokes of emotion and empathy and in beautiful rhyming and meter.
"A crop of sorrow gathered there,
stored in your barn of inner pain." ~ I'm awed by these lines....Such awesome poetry!

Wow. Words can't describe how i feel about this poem, It truly is a work of art. It had me feeling so many different emotions all at once. I recently got into writing and I realized how meaningful something as simple as a poem can be. This truly will be one of my favorite poems that I have read so far.

Not familiar with the film. These words conjure memories of times when I have sat in a park, striving to organize my thoughts, wondering where to begin. I sometimes start with one theme and end up with something altogether different. A most observant poem, dear lady.

I'll have to check out this film after reading your words here, Chris. From the eloquence of your lines it certainly sounds inspiring. I personally enjoy film more than writing itself so I'll see if I can track this one down. Mija sounds like a determined character not prepared to give up on her quest. As we all know from experience, sometimes the 'words won't play'. Some lovely lines throughout this poem. An inspired piece of writing. ⚘

I've never seen the movie but how you pen a poem in regards to it is very nice Ms. Shaw. I hope I'll one day find my voice within poetry. For now I admire yours and others. Thank you for sharing this poem.

I have not seen the movie but I think your poetic description is quite likely every bit as impressive.
I can almost feel that soft summer drizzle (actually I can feel it because it doesn't seem to stop raining here )
Hope your sun is still shinning and thanks for this bit of excellence

You must see the movie to understand this poem fully. Thanks Dave.

Beautiful melancholic piece. Bottled up, 'undeserving' feelings and torment are indeed harsh motivators for a poetic soul.. like a drawn out, lasting trigger. I reckon Mija is a character from that film? I hope, real or fictional, she gets her solace.

dearest Chris... I have had a few Korean friends in my past... they are very delicate by Nature... they view Love as a flower.. and everything they do has a gentle Spirit.. and therefor.. very poetic. I can imagine the tears of Rain in your poem being a gift of blessings. tenderly, Pat
