Turncoat

Turncoat

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(An old poem about an old moggie, long gone)

"
This fickle creature nudges me
and weaves between my walking feet.
It's not for love he acts this way,
he prompts me as it's time to eat.

Attempts to sit him on my knee
so I can stroke his thick black fur
have failed. My feline won't respond,
he will not sleep or gently purr.

Not my black cat, there's none of that.
Not all indoors are kept exempt,
It's me he keeps his distance from,
It's me he serves with such contempt.

It does appear his mind is set.
My pet is stubborn, I take heed.
From him I can't expect a thing,
from me, at least he'll get his feeds.

Cats just don't like people.
Though they do bring you back presents.
Usually birds, mice, rats.
Natures little hoover. lol

They are mostly aloof creatures, I have to agree. Thank you Paul.

Chris
Pets are curious creatures, whimsical and absolute characters by themselves. I have started taking to a pommeranian I recently got acquainted with. A sheer delight.

Best,
M.

You too m'dear :))
Sounds like a two-timer, to me--one carousing tom.
"Owners" are typically owned.
More times than not, feed-providers tap-dance to the feline's fiddle.
Free yourself! Go dog!

Cats sure like to act like they're the master and we're the pet sometimes. (Some more than others) Their occasional acts of bravery make me think they're more dedicated to us than it might seem, however.

My cat Purdy. She meow and meow, when she is hunger and quiet, when the food is served. I enjoyed the poem. Our animals. Best friends, who demand little. Thank you Chris for sharing the excellent poetry.

Loved this poem, Chris. Cats are like that and I know your kind heart still cared so much for him. Knowing everything about them and their fickle and selfish nature, I still find something adorable about them. Such a well constructed and rhymed poem Chris. Appreciated very much!

A fine, rhythmic poem, Christine....

This one sums up just exactly why I am a dog person; I always found Dogs to be considerably more loyal and affectionate than cats, despite cats always appreciating the comfort that my lap provided! My Grandmother had a sleek and beautiful Siamese and would often get jealous of me when 'Her' cat passed up her lap for mine. For as I am sure you well know, Cats can be very aloof and selfish animals. As long as they get what they need, when they need it...its to hell with Humans!

Your poem is well written as always, wonderful flow, rhythm and rhyme and took me on my own little trip down memory lane. Another fine poem.
