Raising The BarA Poem by Chris ShawTo celebrate a new arrival.
Endearing Emmi, overseas,
we haven't had the chance to meet, though how I love those photos of your tiny fingers, dainty feet. Without a doubt I'm gratified to see you gurgling back at me. It's no surprise your eyes are blue and from the gloss on coloured prints, your red gold hair glints shyly through. Dear Emmi, all I wish for you, a life brimful of happiness, that all your days are lived in peace, contentment, joy and best of health. If I could wave a magic wand, sweet niece, I wouldn't hesitate to influence each storm ahead, to sprinkle stardust on your brow and fix each rough card you are dealt.
