Ripe and Ready Cherry Reds

Ripe and Ready Cherry Reds

A Poem by Chris Shaw

In my sunlit autumn garden
drenched by warmth of soon lost heat,
tumbling down from hanging wicker,
ripe for picking, fine to eat.
Clusters drooping, loop de looping,
sweet sensation on the tongue.
Cherry toms abundant, heavy,
"Pick me, pick me, I am done".

Toss them first with fresh chopped basil,
squeeze of lemon, olive oil.
Season with a pinch of salt grains,
ground black pepper, else you'll spoil.
"Don't desert me, shun or hurt me,
while you laze and toast in sun.
You'll be sorry come October,
when my fruiting days are done".

Salivating here; both because of the thought of those cherry toms, and the delicious impact of your words.

I just love rhyming poetry, and you do it so very well Christine.

There is just something about homegrown tomatoes that taste so much better than the ones at super market! You made me miss my childhood for a sec. , Fresh tomatoes, fried potatoes, great Northern beans and corn bread was my foster Moms favs and for a good reason too, no one (that I've known) can cook them
quite as good as she can.

I love September and you are welcome Chris.
I do get a lot of my salad ingredients from my garden too. I also do love olive oil in many things. Nothing like picking the fruit of labor and thanking God for Nature's bounties. Your poetry garden is ripe too and delicious.

This was deliciously sweet and delightful to read and cherish. Sorry, bad pun. Chris. I actually could picture picking the cherries and making some appetising food with them to savour.

Man I love that time of year. The great thing about Arizona is we have like three growing seasons and can usually get the Cherry Toms All year round if we mind them well enough. You are making me hungry Christine!!! Great Write!!

How wonderfully wonderful your words are, and the reasons for posting them! And you challenge creepies by planting tomatoes in a hanging basket.. rayyyy for you! ' Clusters drooping, loop de looping,~ sweet sensation on the tongue.' As to the way you prepare yours, yes, yes, yes a Sally met Harry reaction when you first sample them herbed and chilled. Do you make salsa too? Okay, enough of the recipies, your words are as tasty as the former.. and, as always, so well defined and beckoning. :)
