If The World Seems Cold To You

If The World Seems Cold To You

A Poem by Chris Shaw

If the world seems cold to you
on days when sun burns diamond bright
and streams of dazzling golden light
can't raise your shipwrecked spirits high.

When sadness strikes and all around
you hear the sound of birds in song,
yet something's wrong and you can't feel
the cheer these little creatures bring.

Though you attempt with all your might
to climb a mountain you can't see,
depression holds such misery,
its blackness like an endless pit.

In time your struggle and your fear
will help ignite a tiny spark,
you'll fumble blindly in the dark
until a shaft of light breaks through.

So kindle fire to warm it well
and pierce the spell of all that's black.
Take pains to nurture what appears
at first a glint, some scope for hope.

At times,
the fire might have been reduced to embers.
Still,
you don't let them grow cold.
You find new fuel for the fire.

Your appreciation is warmly received Adam.

Chris
Having nothing but darkness and hopelessness in your life. I can relate to that. Hurting so much that you just become numb and devoid of feeling. I can also relate. But the good about going through is that there is another side. There is hope and that's something to look towards to.

You have truly captured what it means to hurt and be full of despair while showing us also that there is a light in the darkness. All we have to do is open our eyes.

Thank you for sharing yet another incredible piece. Your writing is a blessing.

wow, i have been here...so in the throes of depression that it is hard to see even a glimmer of hope...and yet...that tiny little glint appears...and we must nurture it...
one thing in my life that has saved me numerous times is my sense of humor.

geez, i so relate to your writing, Chris.
