Sink Or Swim

Sink Or Swim

A Poem by Chris Shaw

Into the glare of sun I stare
reflected in the river's flow.
Below its surface, schools of fish,
flash silver as they dart then slow.

In forests strange which lurk beneath
while ripples oscillate and fade.
A sudden splash they're gone from sight
into the depths as dark as night.

How I wish at times when I
feel life has sucked my marrow dry,
that I a Pisces through and through
could dive and surface as they do.

It's alright Chris!
Life has a way of keeping us just above the water lone for the most part, which doesnt make it any easier to know while we are under it. An equilibrium of safety woulf be nice, but when do we ever get what we want, or need? :)
To be a fish in a pond, with only the worry of a fish to have. :)
Ah, who am I kidding? All this pain and confusion that is life would be missed... For like three minutes :)

How often have I had such thoughts ?
Not a silver fish to dart round in the sparking stream or under the shade of boughs
No a bird I fancy to be flying high to catch the flys
A swallow possibly then when winters cold days arrive
Go for a winter in the sun many miles away

Wouldn't it be nice

A casual observation of the beauty of one of Nature’s creations turns into a reflection on the deeper nuances of life. The silver flashing fishes, their agility and ability to fly in and out of their milieu at whim, the turbulence of life itself all combine to bring on a realisation. Appreciated so much, Chris!

It was such a pleasure to read, Chris! You are most welcome!
Loved the imagery in this one, Christine. Yes, if only we could dive in and out of the water as the fish do...hide when necessary and show our faces when we chose to. The rhyming is flawless. Wonderful. Lydi**
