The Absent Tooth Fairy

The Absent Tooth Fairy

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Bad tooth fairy)

"
Sing a song of golden coins,
poor Robbie hasn't any.
The fairy shirked her duties
and didn't leave a penny.
For days the tooth had wobbled
and given him some trouble,
because it was a back one
I told him he'd get double.
He went to bed quite early
and said that he felt sleepy.
He wrapped the tooth in tissue,
his face a wee bit cheeky.
I'm feeling rather guilty.
He seems a trifle puzzled.
"What happened to the fairy?"
She's feeling slightly sozzled.

U mean u forgot to place the magic penny under the child 's pillow? Poor munchkin. Tell it the fairy was sick and will put one when she recovers . You wrote it super cool splendidly as always makes us smile. You do have young children? Kudos for this poem. And warmest wishes.

Aw Queenie. Pleased I'm not the only bad fairy around. Thanks for owning up.

Chris - I'm so glad you caught up with your mistake. Too much of what they accept as reality is snatched away from them at an early age. The world, unfortunately, is cruel enough as it is. Why not let them hold on to these harmless fantasies as long as they can?

Take care - Dave

Haha - this is cute but sad for the poor little boy who didn't get his penny! I hear inflation has struck the poor fairy and she has to leave a ridiculous amount for teeth now $$$. I'd hate to have her job ;)

LOL, this is funny Chris. Loved it. Poor soul. Wondering where his penny is in the morning? As she was drunk. And forgot.

The troubling part of the tooth fairy, Santa and the Easter Bunny to me is the belief that myths propagated as fact are a necessary part of childhood development. I believe childhood innocence is not a dream to be shattered but a state of grace to be cherished and to develop complete trust within those parameters. When we perpetuate lies and expect our children to be honest with us it seems to me an immoral and double-standard of expectation. I allow for creative fantasy and imagination which is not offered as reality but my children have never been lied to by me about anything and never will. So, no tooth fairy will be expected here.

Really sweet poem. I loved the innocence of it; brought back memories of my own childhood with the tooth fairy. The world is such a dark place, I often envy a child's innocent perceptions.

Great piece, Chris!
