I Spy Spiders

I Spy Spiders

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(For little ones and adults as well)

"
Clever Trevor spider,
how intricate your web.
You worked on it with diligence
as I slept in my bed.

And in the morning sunlight
on finest silken thread,
shine tiny beaded lanterns
that glint around my head.

Oh creepy, sleepy spider,
I love the trap you've spun.
Suspended from the pergola,
it won't please everyone.

For hark, from out of dreamland,
young Beth's within my sight
and when she sees you hanging there
her screams will waken night.

Lovely from start to finish and it flowed so easily as I read it, the mark of a not just a really well rhymed poem, but also of care taken with the syllable count of each verse, which if not done can make even the simplest of rhymes a tad clunky.

Spider webs are so very beautiful and delicate, a true work of art from mother nature.

Beccy.

I think this is so fantastic...the scene is set...as i read i know that web is there to capture my face as i awaken ... yet from that spider's perspective it is a work of art with purpose ... such a pleasure to read your rhythm and rhyme in this ... "Clever Trevor.." starts spinning me off with whimsy and delight! so glad i stopped by and did not miss this one Christine!

Funnily enough I am having a great companionship with Wasps at the moment. Maybe it's the weather but they seem to want to investigate my face, lips and nose while I am on my "Beer Bench" sipping coffee or whiskey. Maybe it is because over many, many' years I have given up trying to scare them off. I really enjoy this form of poetry Chris and you certainly have the way of putting it to the fore. Thanks for sharing Rod.

A very delightful poem Chris! Fascinating isn’t it...how spiders claim a territory overnight! Diligent, clever creatures. I don’t have a problem with house spiders, though some like the black widow are scary. I loved and enjoyed your words here!

Ah, a frolicking spider is never a welcomed guest for anyone I know, including me. This is clever, Chris, and enjoyable. :)

Brilliant Chris. It is impressive how you can deliver these perfectly constructed poems on any subject apparently effortlessly. As you say this will delight any age in equal measure without being too scary.

Ha! What a delight! This is a little creepy, whimsical, and 100% fun. Who likes spiders? Noooo, not me. Well, okay... I know they eat other, perhaps less desirable little critters, but can't we just keep them off the bed and out of our hair?

Thank you Samuel for your lovely response. All good wishes

A lovely acknowledgement of a very useful arachnid, which, yes, is not everyone's favorite.
Somewhat annoying to continually walk face first through their handiwork which is much more prevalent at this time of year
Nicely done

Most women I know detest spiders.
However you may actually feel about them, you've written a cracker-jack of a poem regarding these geometric mini-monsters.
Outstanding, Chris!

Oh lovely, and perfectly executed! Delicious alliteration and assonance( Clever Trevor, creepy, sleepy spider,) I always feel so sorry for spiders. They work so hard 'with diligence' and yet they frighten people so much. This is a perfect poem, for children and adults.
