Sometimes when you get married young as people grow and change a rift between two people happens instead of growing together over time.
This poem conveys the emotional toll it takes on a person when the hopes and dreams are shattered with the loss of not only love but a partner and lover.

Sadly if you marry someone who turns out to be selfish, it doesn't matter what age you are. Yes, the toll can be huge, especially when it comes to trust issues. Many thanks PB for checking this old poem out. You are appreciated.

You are welcome. When one person is selfish it never ends well.
Oh, how very sad. I like the imagery and I like that you write about emotions. "Confetti kisses" is very descriptive.

Ouch, been there, done that and in truth made a much better choice years later. I have actually treated as a learning process where we eventually learn. I refer to my first marriage as an apprentice-ship. Seems to have worked as I finally earned an award regarding partnerships. better stop there, loved your version both in meaning and writing. Well done, we have all done silly things but marriage can be the most painful. Take care Rod

Good learning method. PS I never proposed as I thought the ring was just a present!
The wretched heartache, sleepless nights,
a lake from all the tears I wept...
That sums it up....
Time does heal ...guess the stains remain as a memory ....
Love the captcha... heheh sometimes it feels like it's matching our poems mood ... in one word... ;)
Sending you warm (( hugs))

that's beyond amazing, from the flow, to the expressions, the rhythm, the emotions, and the title! what's more sadly enchanting that it? I feel the innocence being stolen then lost, a young heart being ripped without completely being repaired, You are truly amazing dear Chris, and I always see You as a great novelist, You have such a fine pen speaking to us with a most smoothing language.

Your poem conjures up intense feelings of hope & disappointment, as it often happens in some relationships. This conventional dream of "forever" was never mine, so it's interesting to see how other people view this kind of letdown in life. Your writing is always very realistic, even for someone who hasn't been there before. Your title (which I love) threw me off, causing me to expect a more upbeat love story, tho! (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie

damn this is good Christine! i feel the angst ... and know the journey ... i think perhaps those kinds of heartbreaks are the first building blocks of real love in our lives ... seem we all get raked over them and drag others through them as well ;{ finding love .... oh the price we pay eh! i really like this one .. its a mirror and tightly packed and so very relatable .. nice job ma'am!
