If I Were Looking

If I Were Looking

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

More fun

"
If I were looking for a guy,
what qualities would spring to mind?
Well first and foremost he would need
to demonstrate that he was kind.

His IQ needn't spiral high,
but neither would I want him dense,
intelligence is fine to have,
but so is good old common sense.

I couldn't bear the type of chap
without the slightest zest for life,
glued firmly to the tv screen,
who wants a doormat for a wife.

And trust me humour is a must,
a wit that's quick not thick and slow,
who likes to crack a joke or two,
who'll lift your spirits when you're low.

Yet he should have a tender side,
be unafraid to show his heart.
A loving nature, passionate
who won't require a kick to start.

I've learned that looks don't count a dime,
a handsome face will fade with time.
This man of course should not object
to poems based on metered rhyme.

If I were looking but I'm not,
content I guess with what I've got.
I think I'll stop before I find
I've landed in a sticky spot.

Ooh I love this Chris and you put yr requirements so well. I am sure you make or made a Fabulous Partner !

I have had 2 Wives, both Pillars of the Community, and they both ended up putting me on the streets - mainly I surmise because neither of them are Writers and they simply could not handle even my modest 'success'.

My Oxford Girlfriend was also a Writer, and we never officially split up, just drifted away as the song says 👍👍👍👍👍

Chris - you have touched all the bases haven't you? Despite being a man, I would agree with you. Perhaps you might offer this as a guide for those ladies that are looking but don't know exactly what it is they are looking for.
I say that< but I honestly don't believe it. I have two daughters, love them to death though they are all grown up now. I taught for 45 years in grades ranging from 5th to 8th. Believe it or not the most difficult year is 7th graders. Boys, at this age have their hormones kicking in and honestly don't know what to do about girls. "Do I hit her? Or do I hug her?." I found that girls have a distinct advantage over boys. I sincerely believe that girls come out of the delivery room knowing what the game is, and how it's played. Please - feel free to disagree with me on this. Take care - Dave

I like your ideas. Most women are interested in a guy's wallet. And yes, humor plays a big part in a good relationship.

Lol.... well that’s a pretty low maintenance list I think. Nice to that there are women who will require only those few things, and you didn’t even mention cash!!! Super fun write Christine!!!!

Your requirements--were you looking--seem rather stringent.
After all, what man does not yearn to be glued to the TV screen while occasionally ordering his doormat wife around?
These are the secret and sacred goals of most males in almost every modern marriage.
Won't even mention the total subservience most wives desire.
The struggle continues.

I found myself in too many sticky spots often seeing as the only guys I've found who fit all those 'qualities' were wayy older :P Already stopped looking haha
This made me chuckle. Very nicely penned. :)

Humour is a must I agree...;)
If he can't tickle you with his words....then what's the use.... someone who can pick up your bad mood and turn into giggles....the one counts your tears and builds a rainbow swing for you to calm you down.... someone who knows...his kisses will be sufficient to turn any grey day to crimson.... that's kind of guy I prefer....;))

Thanks to your poem to have made me scribble all that....

We should keep a contest your desirable partner to list what we want in them.... :)
Would be fun...
