Brief Encounter

Brief Encounter

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(tongue in cheek fun, p.c. brigade go away)

"
Pass the salts, I'm feeling faint,
(I'm not that type just kidding you).
At noon a stranger made me smile,
transformed a day which started blue.

I made my entrance in a room
(in all it could be deemed absurd),
good grief, he stood as I walked in,
poor chap he didn't say a word.

What charm, a man of chivalry,
he offered me his empty chair,
I thought that died an age ago,
he took my coat while I sat there.

I'm grinning like a Cheshire cat,
perhaps I need to re-assess?
Is it too late to change my views
on subjects such as manliness?

I always looked for men with brains,
(found in the head, not sunk below).
These manners which have been displayed
have given me a rosy glow.

I swear ten years have disappeared
without applying nip or tuck.
Now what on earth can rhyme with that?
Ah yes, I know that's where I'm stuck.

So in these days of equal rights,
(I'm really not a hypocrite),
it is refreshing now and then
to play the princess for a bit.

Times have changed indeed and working side by side with men and commanding equal pay and equal privileges as them, women have to relinquish their need to be cossetted or cared for, gently.
Now one doesn't expect roses as much as equal credibility while working and striving out there.
Yet a pleasant interlude like the one described so beautifully here just makes our day.
Now I'm smiling too.

&
“Is it too late to change my views on subjects such as manliness?”
—two parts of this poem which made me pause, reread, and think quite fun thoughts. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you SL, I appreciate your response.

Playful and light. It is the lot of women that we sometimes feel less than "progressive" when we just go with our "feminine wiles" but on occasion it's just nice to be a girl

Gee
You think this man was chivalrous
my dear how wrong you are,
inside his head you're on his chaisse
in nowt but thong and bra.

And he is standing starkers, bare
with one thing on his mind
to explore you're every intimate part
and your G spot there to find.

So think again on offered chairs
from men that you don't know,
as it isn't kindness they want to give
more their seed they want to sow.

Good morning Christine, hope all is well in the sunny UK :))

I shall have to write a sequel to this theme, Chris. I was offered a seat by a young girl on a bus, when her mother told her to let the "old gentleman" sit down. Good manners and chivalry do still exist, and if a good response follows, it shows that you ladies are not the only winners........so there!!

Thank you. Chivalry is still alive and kicking.

There are some men with manners left,
you'll find that we are not all bereft
of the ability to smile and hold the door,
make conversation that doesn't boor,
and some I'm sure would hold their brolly
above the head of a lovely dolly
who needs to keep her coiffure dry
produce a tissue if she were to cry.
Now, at last, this ditty's done,
thank you Chris, this was fun.

Good write
