For All Things Wet

For All Things Wet

A Poem by Chris Shaw

This claustrophobic, clinging heat
where air is humid, spiced with dust,
has found me in an avid lust.

My mind is fixed on fluid things
of rivers, brooks and gurgling streams,
of oceans, with white crested waves
that crash on shore before my feet.

I'm dreaming of torrential rain,
I'm dreaming of the sweet refrain
of raindrops as they splatter down.

I'd happily strip off and stand
with outstretched arms and upturned hands
as Heaven opens up the skies
and cries out loud for all that dies.

the heat, the humidity feels stifling..just like being suffocated ...i feel that way in small spaces...but also in wide open spaces when the heat is as oppressive as a slave owner...or a dictator under which we live in duress.
your poetry always makes me think on several levels.

Love how each word is careful thought of and it gives us(readers) a visual creation of what is written. The ending is just brilliant, love this.

Super poem Chris and so timely in England right now. I love the phrase, 'spiced with dust', so catchy! Well rhymed

You are tremendously imaginative when it comes to the metaphoric detailing of the write. I got a serene like feel from the write, from the way you portrayed about the rain. Such an amazing poem to visualise. Wow!

This is a glorious tribute to RAIN! I love it! You caught that basic urge in a dancing, enthusiastic way. I can't even think of a single word to make your poem more perfect! Thanks for the "heads up" so I wouldn't miss this one! AHHHHH! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yeahhhhhhhhh, rain at last. We've been sweating our nuts off on site for the last month and choking on dust. The wet stuff is more than welcome. Just flicking rough the papers to see if you were snapped, naked, palms upturned, haven't seen you yet, BUT, still have the Sunday Sport left to thumb through so still a chance.
Hope all is well Christine

Rain is a blessing. Poor California could use. Here in Michigan. Been raining cat and dogs. I liked the need and the description in your words. Thank you Chris for sharing the amazing poetry.
