Purple Passion

Purple Passion

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(favourite colour)

"
Wisteria upon the vine
entwines and droops its purple blooms,
while lavender whose perfume thrills
both calms and soothes those minor ills.
Yet succulent are grapes that grow
full-bodied crushed which turn to wine
and Devon violets in the fields
will linger, fragrant so divine.
The heads of purplish broccoli,
plump aubergines are fine to eat
and heather, heavy on the moors
will give those tired eyes a treat.
Tall craggy slopes with purplish hues
cast shadows at the end of day
and purple ribbons flying free
remind me of a child at play.
There is a richness I admire
this colour sets my heart on fire.

will do! I needed a Purple Monday :)
This is a lovely tribute to the contribution of gardens and flowers to the beauty of all creation. Your word choice captures the subtle whisperings and whistles of the wind among the vines as it gathers up perfumes flavored by the prayers of saints. Too often a single rosebud among wiry, withered vines provides the only true beauty we see all day long, but even that regenerates the joy and hope for better days to come. You inspire us all.

Ah, purple.. it is the colour of royalty after all ;) It's my favourite colour too so I'm glad I came by this piece :) Lovely last lines, it sets my heart on fire and at the same time makes me feel calm too.
Beautifully written.

I love those purples Dee. Thank you.
they don't call it the "color of royalty" for nothing. deep, lovely words which do it due justice. your imagery and feeling match the rarity and uniqueness of that precious hue. this vibrance will stick with me all day now. great write. thanks for sharing ... :)

Chris :))
Beautiful descriptions here. It is such a gorgeous colour up against the green of summer or the yellow of wheat ... the lilacs were so intense this year but are all dried and gone with the heat. Lovely poem

Thank you Lyn. What a pity the lilacs suffered as a result of the heat.

Like the reference to wisteria and grapes
we currently have those two plants/vines sharing a trellis which they have grown well beyond, up to the tops and all in and along a row of mature leylandi cyprus
not quite sure where it will all end
