Jurassic Finds

Jurassic Finds

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Fossil hunting, (not for one little miss though, who had other ideas)

"
On the foreshore at Seatown
exposed by low tide,
she can't hide her delight
at the sight of clay.

Grey, abundant, pliable.
On her knees, it pleases to
mould, roll, pummel.
A smile on her face
fingernails ingrained, clothes stained.

While others hunt for fossils,
belemnites in batches,
she hatches
a Jurrassic duck

This person certainly enjoys life at its best, showing us that it doesn’t take much to make someone gleeful….tossing and pummeling with a smile brings back wonderful memories of childhood… an upbeat poem for sure;
Well done Chris!

Such a wonderful and loving capture of the blessed innocence and purity of thought that is granted, oh so briefly to the child.

You composed a perfect picture in the mind's eye.

I love the “Jurassic duck” Chris! You paint a beautiful picture of this little girl creating her fantasy world of clay- innocence and imagination personified. Eloquent language with endearing imagery that touches the heart. You make her so real for us, and brighten our lives with her joy and her little smiling face. Thank you.

Who is to say anymore which is the rarer - a fossil or a child's creative imaginings - both are historical.

I loved this Chis. Children find adventure in such mundane situations. And turn it into joy. Even thou for adults. This is very interesting and historic thing to do.

Aw, she was having a delightful time Chris.. :)
Think I would much rather fashion a Jurrassic Duck from the clay than collect old bones

More interesting: satisfying and productive than collecting Old Bones

Hope she took the duck home and looked after it

Sadly not, said duck was left on the beach waiting for the incoming tide. Thank you.
