Music Box

Music Box

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(some free verse, written 10 years ago, about a recurring dream, of events that took place much further back in time).

"
Whilst I lie sleeping, it is you
returning to haunt
my dreams, the tapestry woven
and raging torrent passed. Battles
fought with our daughter's demons,
invasion of my left breast. You,
recurring betrayal, sliding worm-like, deep
into subconscious darkness,
blackness of mind's eye,
stillness of night. Disturbing
my freedom.
The box opens but no
dancing ballerina pirhouettes
pure in white tutu
and satin slippers
to heavenly tune. Notes
wretched, melancholic
all I hear, the guilt from our lost child
speaking.

A very sensitive write Chris, a lost child .... was she lost as a baby , or is she lost because of circumstance?

The music box brings only sadness instead of joy and i like the metaphor you have used, it is so poignant.

You have opened your heart here, to share your grief, a very brave thing to do ((hugs))

You are welcome.
Very delicate and melancholic. Recurring dreams are taken as signs in some cultures woven with mystery. Your title and poem are endearing.

You are welcome, Christine.
Delicately and heartfelt as well as soul-searching reaching into oneself of a child passing. How it affects you deeply and takes you over. I am so very sorry for your loss. Your child is with you always. Knowing you love them beyond life itself. forever into eternity. They are with you.

It was a dark period, but thankfully the light crept in Jimmy.
people slip away from us...and when it is family it hurts twice as much...but the healing can be so soothing...and you prove that it can happen...
the melancholy can turn to hugs and smiles...and acceptance.
