A Serving of Flattery

A Serving of Flattery

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(more fun)

"
In Morrison's I took a break,
black coffee and a slice of cake
and sat there as the rain poured down.

My daughter picked at pink shelled prawns,
green salad leaves adorned her plate,
she's far too conscious of her weight.

As we engaged in idle chat,
a sideways glance, it dawned on me,
that we'd aquired some company.

He stood there in his dark grey suit,
a poppy in his left lapel,
as though enchanted by a spell.

Some awkward seconds, then he spoke,
his finger pointing to my head.
I felt my cheeks flush post-box red.

What did he want, a bloomin date?
"My dear", he said, "Your hat looks great".

Just the sort of poetry I like, and the hat of course! Being male, aged I know, but when you get a flattering remark regarding hat or features it is a type of offer of a date. Maybe the coffee and cake gave him confidence. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming. Rod.

This is affectionate & playful & endearing! *smile* Love the way you set the scene & convey tons of modest attitude with sparkling details we can all relate to. I really needed this smidgen of sweetness, after the bozos I've run into lately! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

You are REALLY good my friend!!! hhaa, but honestly I think he wanted more than "Your great hat!" so You can have some comfort here :) I felt my self reading a scene from a novel, an old novel and this just gave me a great feeling, and how I wish to stay in Your first verse, with a coffee and cake, and my beautiful rainy solitude... ah! very very well done my friend, Thank You for posting another fun for us to read :)
