Cobwebs and Laughter

Cobwebs and Laughter

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Rewind, an 80's music festival at Henley, nothing like going with old friends)

"
It didn't matter that the showers
howled with laughter at the hours
they observed us from above,
a festival of peace and love.

Umbrellas up, umbrellas down,
then raincoats on and raincoats off
and hats were doffed as sun came out
amid the cheers and raucous shouts.

Rewind the years, turn back the clock,
forget the niggling aches and pains.
Relive the music of your youth
and dance beneath those winking stars.

Dressed up in fashions vibrant, bright
you're not as slim, your outfit's tight
but nothing's going to dim your fun.
You bought the ticket to stay young.

And everyone's hell bent that they
will grasp the moment, live the day.
Attention grabbing younger you,
has not forgotten what to do.

The years are peeled and you exposed,
your cobweb's blown, you feel the cold,
the fast lane may have slightly slowed,
but you are raving, just as bold
and growing old disgracefully.
