Cobwebs and Laughter

Cobwebs and Laughter

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Rewind, an 80's music festival at Henley, nothing like going with old friends)

"
It didn't matter that the showers
howled with laughter at the hours
they observed us from above,
a festival of peace and love.

Umbrellas up, umbrellas down,
then raincoats on and raincoats off
and hats were doffed as sun came out
amid the cheers and raucous shouts.

Rewind the years, turn back the clock,
forget the niggling aches and pains.
Relive the music of your youth
and dance beneath those winking stars.

Dressed up in fashions vibrant, bright
you're not as slim, your outfit's tight
but nothing's going to dim your fun.
You bought the ticket to stay young.

And everyone's hell bent that they
will grasp the moment, live the day.
Attention grabbing younger you,
has not forgotten what to do.

The years are peeled and you exposed,
your cobweb's blown, you feel the cold,
the fast lane may have slightly slowed,
but you are raving, just as bold
and growing old disgracefully.

And why not ... the body ages but we ourselves are as young and spirited as ever. The mirror lies, it can only see the surface ... but look at the eyes..., see how they still light up and smile. ((*_*))

Too right.
Age is just a number- I worked at Brownstock Festival two years ago- the last one they had, the van I worked in was just in front of the main stage- what a party that was- danced more than worked- did 40 hrs in 2 and a half days- felt like a train had run over me but it was worth it- music was great and was wonderful experience- can relate- u only as old as you feel- hope u feel with your hands...lol..🌹

Light, humorous, nostalgic and relatable write! The power in a tune or lyric, can transport the mind to an event, time or place where life is now just memories - really enjoyed the read - made me get out my old playlist! Loved it … :-)

I felt it my friend, lively as life can be... but to attend a concert must be just like, living at this moment only, free and alive in all senses... though I didn't really live in the 80th only born at that time BUT I'm a BIGEST fan of 80th music, some music will never return, and nothing is compared to it... thank You my friend for the journey with You, to say at last too Your title is so wonderful.

You're welcome!
if we do these things when we are young...that is just youthful craziness. But if we do them when we are older, it is unacceptable behavior for an elder...good grief...i am going to stay 18 in my head forever.

“...and growing old disgracefully.”- Yes to that fantastic last line my friend! I wish I could have been there with you. I’m “not as slim” for sure, but music is the great equalizer isn’t it! Great anthem poem for rockers ‘of a certain age’- perfect verses, musicality, flow, rhythm, rhyme. You blew this away Chris- just loved it. Maybe we can put it to music for the next Woodstock?! Got my Gibson out and tuned already! Xo

Yes, women have moved music forwards. No longer male dominated :))
The party goes on! This is what I want from life, no matter what it throws at me I want to rave just as bold, go just as hard and enjoy just as much as anyone else would. If I can look past what everyone else will think at that moment and just live and enjoy for myself, life is truly beautiful.
