Cobwebs and Laughter

Cobwebs and Laughter

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(Rewind, an 80's music festival at Henley, nothing like going with old friends)

"
It didn't matter that the showers
howled with laughter at the hours
they observed us from above,
a festival of peace and love.

Umbrellas up, umbrellas down,
then raincoats on and raincoats off
and hats were doffed as sun came out
amid the cheers and raucous shouts.

Rewind the years, turn back the clock,
forget the niggling aches and pains.
Relive the music of your youth
and dance beneath those winking stars.

Dressed up in fashions vibrant, bright
you're not as slim, your outfit's tight
but nothing's going to dim your fun.
You bought the ticket to stay young.

And everyone's hell bent that they
will grasp the moment, live the day.
Attention grabbing younger you,
has not forgotten what to do.

The years are peeled and you exposed,
your cobweb's blown, you feel the cold,
the fast lane may have slightly slowed,
but you are raving, just as bold
and growing old disgracefully.

I could say nostalgia ain't what it used to be but in this case that is simply not true. This actually reminds me of running through the rain with my sister and my mum singing the old advertising refrain, 'hot chocolate drinking chocolate' I may be was off beam there but that is what this lovely piece does to me.

I know exactly what you mean Chris .. its been a while since I last nipped through the hedge at Glastonbury or paid my pennies at Reading, Donnington (now Download) WOMAD & Knebworth .. and I agree with you entirely, there is something that rubs off the crowd and keep you feeling young .. I last felt it this year at Shrewsbury and when my strawberry hat still fitted nicely .. Neville

Ha, ha, love rule breaking myself!
Ah reliving the good old days in the present and how we just can't party like we use too. Music has a way to do that so does poetry. Good read.

With love,

Matthew

Old age isn't an injustice forced upon rebellious youth. It's often a reward for exercising the better part of valor in discretion. But hopefully, along the way, we make some memories worth recalling to comfort our wounded egos in recognition of our survival. This was a great read.

I liked and I understood this poem Christine.
"The years are peeled and you exposed,

the fast lane may have slightly slowed,

and growing old disgracefully."
Old age is upon me. I see the need for more improvement than great victories. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

Gee
And growing old disgracefully should be the aim of us all. God forbid I be remembered as the old fella that stank of pee and wore beige clothes. As I speed towards 60 I'm back into fitness and iron my face twice daily.
Another enjoyable read.
Good morning Christine
