Minor Me

Minor Me

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(that inner child coming out to play)

"
Unplanned, I find she seeks me out,
my inner child peeps from the wings.
A fraction shy in early days
but with a thirst for history.
Yet I am thankful that she brings
her freckled nose and untamed hair
back home before my older eyes.

I sigh at all the hours spent
curled up and reading books stacked high,
or painting with an artist's flair.
Though when I see her climbing trees
or playing chase through bluebell wood
or paddling barefoot in the sea,
how full of joy this youngster seems.

Content is she, I do see that,
of siblings, friends and family cats.
How fond I find I am of her,
respectful, playful, laughing child
who loves to dance unseen and wild.
She is the stepping stone that led
to who I am, she's minor me.

The inner child inside of us, shows how young our heart is, I believe. Although I'm 18 and there are many things I haven't seen in my life I sometimes miss my inner child when I was a kid and it was more active back then. Enjoyed reading this beautiful and deep poem of yours dear Chris, I'm glad to read it on the first day of 2024.
Take care🤍

Growing up is highly overrated in my opinion. Of course that is only from an observer's perspective since I chose to never do such a thing. I still find wonder and magic in the world all around me. Your "minor me" seems sweet and carefree. Adults mostly worry and brood about problems over which they have absolutely no control.

I was engaged in your poem as it made me remember my childhood, how I curled up reading books and trying to climb a maple tree and getting the sap all over my hands. Lovely poem.

Seeing a piece of us in others is a key to empathy. So nice to seem similarities in others. It gives a sense of not being alone. Children in their innocense evoke even greater feelings of identification. Great choices Chris in a poem that I can deeply identify with.

Ooh! Why has mini me never found this one? I do apologise for my tardiness and promise, it won't happen again.
Mini me is alive and well too. Loving nothing better to slip his leash and wander where I'm taken.
Just remember that although minor me/you is fun, you should organise the flights, otherwise you might end up entering the red bull challenge! 😊
And a happy new etc to you and yours Chris. May '24 be less hellish than' 23.
