Bursting The Bubble

Bursting The Bubble

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Sky gazing...

"
I this, I that, my poems chat
of loved ones, friends and matters which
I can't allow my pen to ditch.

Yet in these times I've come to see
and recently far more than I
had realised in months before,
that peace is like an apple pie.

A pie that's baked with love and care
and there it waits upon a plate
where vultures hover, filled with hate
to desecrate the good in it.

I woke this morning, sleep filled eyes
alighted on a heart shaped cloud
so white, so bright, so full of hope
and drifting in a sky of blue.

But moments later came a plane
and like a piercing dart it struck,
an arrow trail of vapour left
which shattered all the perfect shape
and tore this lovely heart apart.

My cloud its bubble truly cursed,
the brains of it were torn apart
and what remains, the pain conveyed
within this troubled piece of verse.

There's an old scripture which reads, "They have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people by saying, "Peace, peace", when there is no peace." And I suppose we shall always have hatred, wars, arguments and intolerance mingled with vanity, oppression, prejudice and fear. They can burst our bubble of safety and serenity more often than not. Sometimes we just have to believe in the dawn to get us through the night or hope for a rainbow after the storm. I enjoyed the read, my friend; eloquently expressed. Bless.

Peace is as decadent as apple pie. Afforded by little, however, due to the stressors of life or "vultures" who are responsible for bursting that bubble of tranquility. Though still, just as sweet. Great read.

Thank you Laurierose for your kind comments.

I appreciate that the rhymes were not forced, I can truly feel the poets message. We live in troubled times and although we're in a comfortable bubble that protects us immediately, we need to wake up and smell the coffee. It doesn't even have to be political or worldly, sometimes we suffer attacks from the ones we love and trust and no bubble was ever meant to last. Thought provoking, I've started to follow your trend, you're not only writing artistically you're also providing your readers with the ability to think and understand your message and reflect on it. Writing not just to inspire but to reflect on, impressive stuff!
