In Spirit

In Spirit

A Poem by Chris Shaw

We are in time a mote of dust,
a pin prick in an ocean sky.
While some may catch the comet's flare,
each one of us is doomed to die.
What causes some to burn so bright
when most live out their lives in night?

I'd like to dance above the clouds,
do cartwheels over mountains high.
Chase rainbows to the valley's end
and grow two wings so I might fly.
These things I may not do on earth,
but will in spirit with re-birth.

Beautifully captured thought Chris, which leads me to wonder if we remove religion and personal beliefs from the equation for a moment, leads to the wonder that seems so primal and ingrained into our dna, of why we all have the feeling of being finally free of bodily form so intense, that it leads to another thought of this "life" being an audition for whatever it is I feel and you felt strongly enough t pen these words.
The thought does seem to lead us somewhere beyond faith and into realms unspoken, felt and known.
I wonder why we wonder such wonders, beneath a starless night sky where even the atmosphere of our own planet can cover these night jewels, how we still sense them there, waiting for us to unchain ourselves from our gravity obeying shells and see and be them without the need for eyes.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to counting twinkles before that big twinkle returns (the sun) ☀️😊☀️

Ultimately, a successful life is one that pleases God and fulfills His purpose.
Earthly fame--while pleasant, I suppose--isn't worth a fig.
Poetry, lovely and pure, gifted poetess!

This is one of the most beautiful statements about living that I’ve ever read. I could’ve been a star, except for being plagued by abusive life experiences. But as your poem so astutely suggests, however it turns out is how it was meant to be! There can be beauty & lightness along any path, as long as we are seeing one’s life with clarity, instead of comparing. It’s only in comparing that people fall short. Your message is an inspiration for those starting out & a reason to ditch regret for those in the autumn of life. I love every word here & Juliespenhere read requested me, by the way (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I always wanted to fly and dreamed of it many times as a child. Perhaps my spirit will - someday. I love this, Chris. Your ending gave it much momentum for me!

I too have always wanted to fly. I quite often imagine myself doing it Kelly, even now. Thank youread more
Wonderfully enjoyed, Chris!
Like yin to YANG, valleys to MOUNTAINS, etc; the two halves of your poem are relative in spirit and moment to the other's existence, and what an infinitely complex question … my-MY!
The level of consciousness that spoke these words is high, indeed, and the premise of reincarnation is a genuinely exciting thought for me to entertain … it actually feels good. : )

Thank you, Dear Poetess, for charming my senses … hugs to you! ⁓ Richard

Your poem is so lovely and inspiring Chris- perfection in words and rhyme. It flies with the angels and flows like a bubbling spring. Insightful, humble, spiritual, faith-filled lines. You brought me happy tears my friend. “These things I may not do on earth, but will in spirit with re-birth.” Brilliant.
