Constants

Constants

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

Drifting in thought

"
Sun, moon and stars look down on earth,
these are the constants since our birth,
along with ocean's ebb and flow.

The biting cold brings bridal snow
which melts when warmer days appear.
And spring brings bluebells out to thrill,
red tulips and gold daffodils,
though these in time will fade and die.

Black storm clouds chase across the sky,
great chariots at breakneck speed.
Take heed that those you love the most
are fragile in the span of time.

On planet blue, our days are brief,
too soon, too soon comes onset grief
as each heart's clock will pause and stop.

How many years will we have here?
In truth our future can't be seen.
Some charmed, will age like fine red wine,
while some will hardly get the chance
to put their small feet on the floor,
before they exit out the door.

Our mark when we depart this sphere?
When we have reached our setting sun,
when we're about to cross the bar,
how will our Maker measure us?
Will he count our kindest deeds,
like cookies in a clear glass jar?

This poem is meaningful and very deep, with many notions about our life span a when our time is up; do we pass this earth gracefully or with a bang?what will become of our legacy when we do pass on? Who is to judge us? We have no idea of out fate, but we know that all of will pass on….sometimes too soon…we know nothing of the span of our lives….very well crafted Chris

dear Chris... "there is nothing so Constant as Change"... your poem has touched a Chord with me.
When you think of how many years have been spent in "growing" and becoming who we are...
the Sun and Moon and Stars have been "on watch" for us. We are so intricately designed ... even the Pine trees grieve when we are gone. Your poem is intimately written on Parchment. softly, Pat

I had to check this one for an offside flag Chris, but then I noticed you're only featuring it and it wasn't written in these spring filled days, which aren't all that springy today and are more soggy than spring. But I am told it is but a blip and the much vaunted heatwave is still just around the corner, which leads me to wish that the weather had VAR, which states, no offside - play on.
We are never guaranteed a use by date, never mind a best before date and we can only ponder and hope that it will be in the far, far away and live as best we can, until our cards are punched and we end this journey or begin another, depending on optimism levels.
Personally I'm hoping for the big sleep, in the comfiest bed known, where alarm clocks are illegal and pillows are just like giant marshmallows, but less sticky.
My biggest worry over death is if I get my favourite Whittards hint of orange hot choc, with 9 mini mallows and made from proper milk and not that semi-skilled muck that everyone likes to pretend is real milk and not the flavoured water that it truly is!
Ps... Just in case, let the big beard guy in the clouds know.... Its WHITTARDS HINT OF ORANGE, 9 MINI MALLOWS AND REAL MILK! 😊

"Like cookies in a clear glass jar" It doesn't get much clearer than that. And what of the sins, beans in a big sack? Not sure how many cookies my jar holds but I hope it is enough because I've got more beans that you can count. I liked this Chris.

.... twas nowt but a pleasure and all mine :)
Our time on this beautiful gift of a planet is indeed brief, no more than a blink of the creator's eye in the grand scheme of things. But if we make good use of that time, show compassion for others, walk as straight a path as we can, then we will have made our mark in the best possible way.

A thought provoking poem that quite beautifully progressed our journey through life.

Hmmm things to think about- pure of heart? What we leave behind can be a measure I guess how we made people feel, did we leave the world a better place? Wonderful words I could see the clouds moving - beautiful - sometimes I widh I was back travelling Mexico or in Alaska where we learn as we travel the earth- the now is all we have🌹

This was a very deep spoken write about the measures of life the beauty and the wages of it leaving . Each thing must leave and a rebirth comes in new.
