Sunset Cafe

Sunset Cafe

A Poem by Chris Shaw

A brisk breeze drives the crystalline,
while in the distance sail boats play
and sun spreads golden spangled light.

From high ground in a sheltered place,
I overlook white crested waves
which chase across the Weymouth bay.

By night, a full moon casts her spell,
fine threads of silver settle down
to glisten, silent on the sea.

Will he remember me next fall?
Will he recall, I was his all,
a rainbow in his Texan day?

Or like the tide that fickle turns
on footprints left behind in sand,
no trace of me, I'm washed away.

Such beautiful images but such a melancholic feeling by the thought of being washed away. The initial lines so poetic.

Sheer beauty Chris.

The heart is so full of fickle waves and love seems like a rainbow fleeting in the sky. We wonder so much about where we stand with the special someone while the weather keeps ever changing in love's scape. Dear Chris, I love the superb metaphors of the things that happen in a human heart during the course of a romance, the golden sunshine, the crested waves, then the silence of the black glistening sea, the waves ebbing to just fine silver threads and the washed footprints in sand. This so truly akin to what transpires within! Absolutely brilliant! Kudos!

Just like this poem shows your memories have lasted, his did as well. I am sure of it. When younger each summer would be spent at the beach in New Jersey. So often you would meet someone on these summer getaways and never see them again after the summer was over. But those memories will always remain. Really nice Chris. This definitely brought back some memories to me and it is amazing.

Ah but if you were his rainbow surely he will always remember with a smile and a sigh! What a beautiful scene you painted with your words. I could see the moon dancing on the sea and hear the waves! I don't think any encounter such as the one you describe can be washed away. Who would want to? Wonderful, Chris. Lydi**
