Doodles

Doodles

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

(a bit of fun)

"
Far from I to question why
you doodle on the hallway wall.
I understand the need to screed
all empty pages with the thoughts
I've caught throughout the passing day.

But smiley faces in black ink,
which glare and stare as I walk by,
that sit beneath our Monet dear,
it's clear they'll drive me soon to drink.

I have no wish for you to hide
your latent talent now turned bold.
In fact I pray I'll live to see
and reap the gold that it might bring.

Look for shadow, look for shade,
I fear these happy marks won't fade.
Before you park your new trade card
to greet me, could I ask you think,
to find a place where I can't see
their imprint quite so easily.

Seems as though you have a "would be Artist" perhaps a Grandson in your Family. I myself oil painted a tree with blossoms at the top of the Stair Case Wall to "surprise" my Mother-in-law when we lived in the upper level of her old and ancient home. That was when I was young and full of Energy with my first-born Son to entertain. I have since grown old and plan to take my Easel into the Meadow and Paint a Weeping Willow on my Canvas. Doodles are Great at any Age. gently, Pat

You are lucky to have an artist in the family no matter the age
Walls are cheap, canvas isn't free
Here's hoping one day she'll bring in big bucks

Hysterical read dear Chris..
Oh gosh kids do love to mark up walls... Maybe a huge and I mean huge packet of paper would work and let those creative instincts out..
As a water color artist I love to hear this about a child.. By the way there is a thing called magic eraser that should get the black happy face off the wall...
But before you do that may I please suggest that you take a piece of tracing paper with (is it you grandson?) and tape it over his drawing.. then, trace his work onto the tracing paper... This way he will not be too hurt that you are removing his art... The next step is to use the tracing paper drawing to place his original work onto a clean sheet of paper...explaining that this way he can keep it forever...
Might stop him from messing up wall and encourage him to continue doing art...
Lisa, catching up on reviews, etc.

Loved it - great imagery and humour - but - don't be too hasty with the scolding - I think this is how 'Banksy' started off (smiles) - :-)

When I was in school my doodling (was out of control) on the kitchen wall of our old house, a classmate of mine years afterwards ( when she moved in to that house ) found it and wrote to me a about it ( the landlord just kept it even years after we moved away) your lovely poem brought back all those sweet days.Thank you.

You made me giggle, and made me smile with warmth, because the mother's spirit of You was so so so sweet here, and I can't help but to feel her loving affectionate warmth... these special imprints will last, will be the sweetest purest of memories, I think of the future, how we might be looking to them with our nostalgic feelings, they radiate the old warming home...

Thank You my friend, for a really sweetly enjoyable read.

I see a child that wants to make the walls colorful, and a mother holding a bottle of cleaning solution and a rag in another.
