Hitting The Right Note

Hitting The Right Note

A Poem by Chris Shaw

May I talk about my daughter,
sing a song of harmony?
Pack away the unwise choices
yet alone bad company.

And the compass lost in transit,
time to play a melody.

Soothe and smooth those stubborn creases,
fix the torn and ragged seams,
take a needle, thread some cotton,
mend those fractured long lost dreams.

When we shared our thoughts at breakfast,
we became a symphony.

this is one o them's got everything .. insight, love, self awareness, confidence, maturity and a kind of unconditional protectiveness for one's own flesh and blood that is rare to find outside of such relationships .. wish I'd found it sooner :)

Chris Shaw,
To take in another's experience and see "I am not alone." Times of harmony dwelt upon are what can empower the times which ring discordant. To think of conversations one on one give reason to hope for more to come. Bless you in you own family.

sharing thoughts either at breakfast or on dinner time is always something that keeps people reunited and together.. i understand, it's only a few moments of sharing, but this moment is all what one needs to feel the peace.. and saddest part is, it doesn't remain the same for long; chooses to walk on by w/ time. alone.

What a loving, sincere, yet utterly logical way of looking at a relationship with little children/little people whose lives you'll watch and be part of .. precious as can be. And that through all the stages: I couldnt have children, have ten godchildren, had my late sisters daughter live with me from nearly eighten til just past twenty three. We went throug all sorts together, terrible for her but, we managed, She's not just my niece but one of my VERY BEST FRIENDS. Learned how it is to love, to care, to count self more than lucky because of her. We learn from young people from birth to whenever, what is it to be unique, how to live and care, do the best we can. Thank you for posting this, perhaps i've no right to contribute.. but your post is so special, Christine. xx

You will ruin my self image if you do not agree with what I have written. Gosh! : ) lol
Love this Chris. Yes, we have to communicate anyway we can with our children. “Whatever Works!” Is my motto. Soothe them, mend them, teach them, wipe their tears-and of course sing to and with them as you describe so tunefully here. It is a melody itself with lovely form, flow, rhythm. Reminds me of when my three grandsons (twins of 9 and brother 7) are around the breakfast table chittering and chattering- that’s more like Chipmunk Serenade though. :)))

We're all connected in some way, I love how you talk about real world stuff via artistic form and make it seem so effortless and magical. You cure my tone-deaf life and add melody to it with your words. It proves that via conversation every bridge can be mended and no journey has to be walked alone. xoxo Kee.
