Set the Sea

Set the Sea

A Poem by cassandra violet

Waves sway and strut, rolling

endlessly towards me, painting

my mind with awe- but oh Sea,

I long to escape the beauty of

your currents sway, to forget

the turquoise shade of shallow

shores, be unable to recall the

vivid hue that shines in the sky

as the world sends her light to

sleep; for while the Sea dreams,

my mind lies awake, staring at

the gait of glistening waves.

Salty Sea, why do my thoughts

drift with your flow? For I do not

know why when I gaze into your

meadows, the desire to gallop on

the unknown flutters fiercely

within me. My stunning Sea, if

only I were not consumed by the

beat of your song, then maybe I

could be soothed by the bland tune

of man. If my heart were to rise

from your bed, then I could embark

down the roads that lie ahead

paved far from your shores.

I wish I had no memory of the

Sea and the way that it gleams.

I want to have never admired

the passionate tango between

wave and wind. I want nothing

more then to be blind to these

streams shinning under a sky

tinted with the shimmer of the

sun, to not know of clouds shaded

with the bounce of birds’ wings

joyfully seeking the blossom

of spring, while I lie underneath,

longing wildly to be free.

This brings me to the sea, in my mind I can near taste the salt. Where I sit just now is loud, and your poem momentarily brought me away.

''My stunning Sea, if

only I were not consumed by the

beat of your song, then maybe I

could be soothed by the bland tune

of man.''

These lines are sublime, and speak to the basest instincts in Humanity. The Ultimate symbol of Freedom is the Sea, you capture, not only a childhood longing for the sea(somehow), but, what I read, as a subconsious maturity, a harking back to hold uncivilised life.
A sort of primitive morphic resonance.
Superb piece. x

I get the image of a receding tide the whole way through this poem, very passionate and nicely writ, well done.

a depth of emotion complimenting the imagery - every wave unfolds a new longing.

This was an amazing piece, lovely and intricate language and the concept was unique and original. You have quite a way with words, my dear, this was a captivating read. Thanks for sharing~

What a depth and movement of longing... of having known dancing beauty, and now wishing to push the thoughts away... The waves seemed to wash over your words... so overwhelming and bittersweet.

Very lyrical stanzas. A surreal description and message. Nicely done!

The rhyming was not exact, which is what actually creates greater rhythm and provocativeness. Gradually, the piece starts out like (in my personal opinion) sitting in the dark alone, thinking of everything at once, where all emotions collide and take your mind away. I also feel like I am reading a metaphorical sense of a cool breeze, walking in warm sand, but with distant thoughts. Thanks sending me a request! Read some of my work if you want...but really thanks for writing such a beautiful peace. Bravado, Vulpes Uxor.

This is so beautiful. I love love love how mystical and calming this is. I can feel myself sitting on a porch deck looking out at the ocean, dreaming, breathing, weaving these fantastic words.
Do you live near the ocean?
