I know what love is

I know what love is

A Poem by cassandra violet

I met you as a child,

On shores of gravel dressed with swings,

Laced with lakes of metal bars, buttoned with waves of sea-saw.

Children were restless, bouncing with youth,

while you and I sat upon a hill, smiling at the sun.

Upon the serenity of this scene,

you pulled a daisy from the glowing grass,

offering the gift to me,

your lips reflected your mind’s pondering,

deciding it was the embodiment of my beauty,

yet, as I reached for it, you took it back,

concluding that it wasn’t right,

because its radiance could not beam forever,

and so we plucked the petals,

Freeing them into the sky,

before falling upon the bed of blossoms,

gazing at the soaring flowers flight.

I gave you my heart when I was a young woman,

as we lay underneath solitary stars,

dreaming they did not rest so far.

Whispering the aspirations of our soul,

tangoing in the dance of desire,

falling asleep to the soothing beats sung from the others chest,

where following this rest we would wake

to a raining rainbow of sunrise,

swimming in sweet laughter,

drying in the light of enfolding affection

as its warmth wrapped like a raging fire.

When I became an adult I promised you forever,

until the seas dried and the sun had died.

You spread your soul into my womb,

and from it branched the wandering of unmapped paths,

the sailing of unexplored seas, the climbing of rocky cliffs,

but no matter where we were,

at night we would always find time to sit arm in arm,

to watch the cool black tide drift

as it glowed under the moon,

while our hearts swayed happily to the lyrics of “I love you”.

As we aged, the memories became wrinkles sketched upon our face,

and the deeper that they cut, the more I fell in love.

Though now we stand static from a long life’s span,

my heart has never pumped so passionately,

pulse never pounded so quick,

the rays of the sun never felt so strong,

the wind has never seemed so soothing.

As you sit on our battered porch, rocking in your chair,

I come to you with a daisy,

claiming that it is our love,

because while its petals may wither,

its seeds will sprout forever.

I really enjoyed the being of the childish love
Because it is so subtle and sweet and most
Of all realistic. As for the rest, well that's something
That will never happen only in our imaginations.
Don't get me wrong its a great poem and all, but
the reason for it being what it is because you are
A romantic with a beautiful mind.

Such a treat to read from beginning to end. It is true love, the one that spans a lifetime and it is exquisitely formed here!

Wow, to be able to keep so many words so close together on such a theme is awesome. I need to read this again because it covers love through time so well. I really like this one. It has imagery, passion and an understanding of the circle of time and love. Very, very good.

Beautiful and romantic!

I love the sentiment... and I love how the words flow like gentle tears..
I think I would have to agree with Jordan on this.. "when it comes to adjectives and metaphors, more does not always equal better".. Overall another gem, so sweetly laid out by a romantic heart..

A perfect love described in the daisy petal, inside a seed that holds all our tommorows, inside a heart beat so powerful that it drowns out time itself, a love that transends age and even the outward shallow beauty, that sees beyond mere skin to the beauty within, a perfect poem

Wow. wow wow wow. This is now of of my favorites. This is so beautiful. Parts that I love are , "yet, as I reached for it, you took it back, concluding that it wasn’t right" that is so romantic. " As we aged, the memories became wrinkles sketched upon our face, and the deeper that they cut, the more I fell in love." Described so beautifull. "because while its petals may wither, its seeds will sprout forever. The kind of love you told in so little words is a love we all yearn for. This is seriously beyond amazing. wow.

It is a dream to meet so young, grow up, fall in love and stay in love into old age. Is this even possible? It seems you do know what love is and you expressed so well here in this poem!
