Chapter 1A Chapter by V.S.L.It was all I could do to keep myself from killing it. Earlier that day, I had promised myself that I would stop killing things just because they pissed me off. I am not very good at keeping promises, especially when they are to me and I have no one to keep me accountable. Anyway, I was just about to make an exception for this mangy dog when all of a sudden the most gorgeous man I had ever seen walked in the room and killed the stupid werewolf for me. Just came up and shot him in the back of the head with a silver bullet. The jerk had just stolen my kill! Who did he think he was? "Who the h__ are you?" I asked. "Orion," he said in a deep voice. For those of you who do not know what a Hunter is, a Hunter is an immortal who kills the evil immortals. They can sense evil and, as their name says, hunt it down and kill whatever it is. Hunters cannot kill mortals. It is considered illegal according to The Hunter’s Code. Zeus, the “king” of Hunters, is the man that the Greeks envisaged as a god. He is the longest living immortal and the leader of the Hunters. I am the only female Hunter and am lucky to have lived as long as I have. This is because my monthly cycles bring me more attention than normal, every bloodsucker on the face of the planet can smell me, and I must smell irresistible. That may be the reason why I am the only female Hunter. Back to the Hunter who stole my kill. He was the tall, dark, quiet type, lean but muscular. He had dark, shaggy hair and beautiful eyes the color of bluebells. It had been so long since I had seen eyes any color other than the red of vampires or the brown of werewolves, that I was shocked and mesmerized. Once I remembered I was mad at him for stealing my kill, I started yelling. I was so mad that I was yelling about everything and nothing all at once. He replied smoothly "He was going to kill you, so I killed him first." "I could've handled him myself!" "Don't be silly he was three times your size." I stand five feet and one inch tall and weigh roughly one hundred pounds. I have never seen my size as a reason for needing protected. I had been protecting myself for over three centuries and never needed help before. I always used my small size to my advantage, the prey sees a tiny, helpless female and pounces on me, I then kill them in whatever way is easiest and go on my way without a second thought. "Admit it you needed my help," Orion said when I did not respond. "I have never needed help, and plus the dog wasn't even evil. He was drunk and needed to be taught a lesson but not murdered." "Like I said earlier, he was going to kill you so I killed him first." "Why would you help me? You don't know me and plus I could have been a mortal and you would have exposed your secret." "I can sense the difference between mortals and immortals, Liz; you know that,” he said this because Hunters can read minds. “Plus, Zeus sent me for you. He said it was urgent and couldn't wait for anything," "Why on Earth would Zeus need me? He has never sent for me before." "He didn't tell me why he just told me to get you and that is what I intend to do." He picked me up, threw me over his shoulder, and started running in the beautifully fast way that mortals cannot see. I cursed, hit, bit, and kicked him the entire way, but never once did he put me down or even hint that I had hurt him. © 2012 V.S.L. |
