ShadysideA Poem by C. James SnyderSad poem on a sad day that paralleled my mood.I got up late on this day A day where nothing really happened I got dressed and poured cereal I looked three more years in the eyes As I went through the door outside The bus was full of strangers-- Full of lives that lived uncommon And eyes that did their best to look elsewhere Everyone too proud to admit interest In something other than phones or windows I watched the grey slide on the city in sheets And Shadyside stood in muted color Something felt off today But now everything sang in wet tepidity A woman wiped rain from her eyes; Scrubs slicked to a student’s skin As she looked too far forward And a place full of health Saw shaky hands pull smoke And I thought to myself Already a third finished with my life If ever that grip comes to challenge All that I have never done Let me go with haste along a river So that
I may blossom once more. © 2018 C. James SnyderAuthor's Note
