Young Heart

Young Heart

A Poem by caseymichelle31
"

Inspired by Young Heart by We Are The Ocean, a poem I wrote as an apology to everyone around me for taking so long to get over the past.

"
Walk into a room
She's sits right there
Head hanging low, covered by her hair
Escaping from the wandering eyes
As they give their occasional stares

It's clear that she's been broken

She wears a crown
Made of fragmented dreams,
The sheer desperation, how it screams
Try as she may, she can't quite fight off
The demons she has found inside herself
The demons she has caught.

Given glimpses of heaven,
She'll never quite forget
The angels who had greeted her,
Standing at the pearly gates.
She relives the memories...

Everything had made so much sense

Then as quick as a vision it had came and gone
Dragged away from her happiness and back down to Earth
She was caught in a trap she had set for herself
Believing in false promise
Her own naivety made her shatter like delf

Yet somewhere lost, there's a glimmer of hope
It hides behind her eyes,
It's entangled in a mess
She struggles to extract it
But she needs it just to cope

Give her a season, just give her a spell
Please don't give up on her
She's trying not to dwell
Let her put her past up on a shelf
So she can write another chapter

Please just forgive her,
She's trying her very best
To be more than just a sad song playing
Over and over again on repeat

She's fragile and damaged, broken and stained
Give her time to heal and strengthen,
Let her play her part.
Afterall, she's still learning how to love

She's just a young heart

Expression like this incites compassion and makes me think of those who are young - finding their way and so easily dismissed. I pray I won't be one who dismisses, but listens and appreciates.

Thank you very much! :)
This is very beautiful. It made me think of a friend of mine in high school who struggled for a very long time to get over something that happened in her past, and a lot of people kept shaming her for not just moving on. Great job writing this.
