A Shadow Of You

I once read somewhere
And maybe it's true
The closer you are to the light
The larger the shadow of you

But what does it mean
And what does it say
When the light disappears
Does your shadow still stay

I've looked in every closet
And every box I own
But if it's always with me
Why do I feel alone

Is it a reflection of me
When I am not here
Is it wandering free
Has it left, is it near

Can it be trusted
Can it be true
Can your shadow be
A mirror image of you

If I ran away
Will it follow behind
Is your shadow and soul
In one, both combined

Though not a tough question
It still is unknown
One you can not answer
Though you have your own

Will it be friendly
When I just want to play
Does it know all my secrets
What will it say

It's only a shadow
But still it's a mystery
It's been everywhere
And knows all your history

I'm sure there is plenty
That it can tell
I hope it remains silent
And yours does as well
