I don't understand why so many people are searching for that person who "completes" them. If we are happy with ourselves, then we are complete without the addition of another person. Why is happiness, success, etc, based on our relationship status? Is it because the media has been shoving it down our throats for who knows how long? Almost every song, movie, show, book is about "finding love" or something like it. And I realize that it's only natural; every living thing in nature is made to reproduce, but does that mean we solitary few have no purpose in life? I think not. I see so many young girls today who turn completely pathetic when a boy leaves them. I was one of those girls not so long ago, but I didn't let it consume me. I became stronger and so much more independent when I realized that I could survive without the romantic love of another. Many people, when I address them with this concern, claim, "Well, we try to live by the Bible, and it clearly says to leave your family and find a significant other." But, do we really worship a God that would have created us to be dependent on other humans? I hope not. I hope we worship a God who gave us the free will to be independent and capable beings. While we rely on Him to give us strength, relying on fellow humans to "complete" us seems like an insult to God. We should need no one but Him, right?
There is strength in solitude. There is courage in compassion.
