Night scares

Night scares

A Poem by Carmon

In earth's corner, huddled close
darkness comes; drapes the walls with lunar monsters
lunar monsters and streetlamp anxiety. There fear
There fear shakes my temper, seeping into marrow
to settle for the night.
How to close my worry-lidded eyes?
It's cold and heavy, but try.
Try. I lay down, pressing my face to the sheets.
And a familiar warmth shifts beside me
A breath in my ear
feathers goodnight.
There the moon becomes a love
love. There the night becomes peace
when anxiety collapses and any weight ascends
I snuggle in tight
tight. I would hold on to you all night
were I not dozing into relief
drifting to respite
"Thank you."
Thank you, my answer, too quiet to hear
I love you
I love you
I know why you're here.
